Creators can earn three kinds of rewards that are fulfilled in your Shopify store: free product, discounts, and gift cards. Each one creates something different in Shopify. This article covers what gets created, when, what it's called, and how it behaves at checkout.
LoudCrowd never places orders or ships products. Creators check out on your storefront like any other customer, and orders go through your usual fulfillment. LoudCrowd also never changes your existing discounts, products, customers, or orders. It only creates new discounts, codes, and gift cards.
Rewards at a glance
Free product | Discount | Gift card | |
What the creator gets | One item free, from products or collections you choose | A percentage off their order, or off products you choose | A dollar balance in their Creator Hub that they turn into Shopify gift cards |
What LoudCrowd creates in Shopify | One discount per gift, plus a single-use code for each creator who claims it | One discount per reward setup, plus a single-use code for each creator who claims it | A Shopify gift card each time a creator redeems part of their balance |
When it's created | Discount: when you save the gift | Discount: when you save the reward | When the creator redeems, not when they earn |

Where creators see their rewards
Rewards live in the Rewards section of the creator's Creator Hub, which has separate tabs for gift cards and for codes.
Creator Hub tab | What's there | How it works |
Reward Wallet | Free product and discount codes | When a creator earns a free product or discount, a Claim button appears on the reward. Claiming creates the code in Shopify and saves it to the Reward Wallet, where the creator can copy it any time. |
Gift Cards | The creator's LoudCrowd gift card balance, plus every gift card code they've redeemed | Gift card rewards have no Claim step. The value is added to the balance automatically. The creator taps Redeem, enters an amount, and gets a Shopify gift card code, which is saved below the balance. |
The balance isn't a gift card yet. A creator's gift card balance only exists in LoudCrowd. Nothing appears in Shopify until the creator redeems part of it.
Free product
A free product reward gives the creator one item at no cost, chosen from the products or collections you set. It's used for welcome gifts, monthly gifts, task and milestone rewards, and one-off gifts you send to a creator.
Step | What happens |
1. You set up the gift | Choose the products or collections the creator can pick from. |
2. LoudCrowd creates a Shopify discount | One 100%-off discount for that gift, limited to those products or collections. It appears in your Discounts list as |
3. The creator claims it | The creator taps Claim in their Creator Hub. LoudCrowd creates a single-use code inside that discount and saves it to their Reward Wallet. |
4. The creator checks out | The order appears in your Shopify admin with the gifted item at $0 and the code in the order's Discounts section. |
What the code does at checkout
Rule | What it means |
One item only | Takes one unit of the highest-priced eligible item to $0. If the creator adds two of the same item, they pay for the second. |
Eligible products only | Works only on the products or collections you chose. A cart with no eligible items gets no discount. |
Free shipping on single-item carts | Shipping is free only when the cart has exactly one eligible item. If anything else is added, your normal shipping rates apply to the whole order. |
Single use | Each code works once, for one customer. A shared code can't be redeemed a second time. |
Can combine | Works alongside your other discounts and on subscription products. |
At checkout, the discount is labeled Welcome Gift from <Your Brand>, Monthly Gift from <Your Brand>, or Reward from <Your Brand> for all other gifts. When free shipping applies, the shipping line reads Free Shipping - <that label>.
Gift code names
Free product codes have three parts: the gift type, the creator's name, and four random characters, so they're easy to spot in your reports.
Gift type | Code format | Example |
Welcome gift |
|
|
Monthly gift |

Monthly task reward |

Milestone reward |

Campaign gift or one-off gift |

|
<NAME> is the part of the creator's email before the @, in capitals, with punctuation removed and a 10-character limit. For example, [email protected] becomes JAMIE.
Discount
A discount reward gives the creator a personal percentage-off code to use on their own order. It's for the creator only, not a code they share with their audience.
Step | What happens |
1. You set up the reward | Choose the percentage, and optionally the products or collections it applies to. |
2. LoudCrowd creates a Shopify discount | A standard discount code in your Discounts list, named |
3. The creator claims it | The creator taps Claim in their Creator Hub. LoudCrowd creates a random 8-character code, like |
4. The creator checks out | The order appears in your Shopify admin with the code in the order's Discounts section. |
What the code does at checkout
Rule | What it means |
What it applies to | The products or collections you chose. If you didn't choose any, it applies to the whole order. |
Single use | Each code works once. |
One-time purchases only | Doesn't apply to subscription products. |
Doesn't combine | Can't be used with other product, order, or shipping discounts. |
Discounts you send to a creator by hand from your program's Members tab use the settings you choose when you send them, so those rules can differ.
Using your own codes? Instead of LoudCrowd-generated codes, you can upload a pool of your own discount codes in LoudCrowd. Each creator receives one code from the pool. Free product gifts always use LoudCrowd-generated codes.
Gift card
Gift card rewards work differently from the other two. Earning one doesn't create anything in Shopify. Instead, the value is added to the creator's LoudCrowd gift card balance for your store, and a Shopify gift card is only created when the creator redeems part of that balance.
Step | What happens |
1. The creator earns a gift card reward | The value is added automatically to their LoudCrowd gift card balance, shown on the Gift Cards tab of their Creator Hub. There's nothing to claim, and nothing is created in Shopify yet. |
2. The creator redeems their balance | They tap Redeem and enter any amount of $1 or more, up to their balance. If the tier has a monthly redemption limit, they can't redeem past it. |
3. LoudCrowd creates a Shopify gift card | A new gift card for exactly that amount, with a code generated by Shopify. The code is saved on the creator's Gift Cards tab, and the card's note in Shopify reads |
4. The creator checks out | They use the code like any Shopify gift card. Any value they don't spend stays on that gift card. |
Example. A creator earns three $25 gift card rewards over three months. Their balance is $75, and nothing is in Shopify yet. They redeem $50, and LoudCrowd creates one $50 Shopify gift card. $25 stays on their LoudCrowd balance for later.
LoudCrowd doesn't set an expiration date on the gift cards it creates.
Don't edit LoudCrowd discounts
Don't edit or delete discounts named (DO NOT EDIT) in Shopify. LoudCrowd never edits these discounts after creating them. When you change a reward's settings or products in LoudCrowd, it creates a new discount so codes creators already claimed keep working. Editing or deleting one in Shopify breaks those codes.
Seeing a long random code? A new LoudCrowd discount may show one 32-character code. Shopify requires a code when a discount is created, so this is a placeholder. No creator ever receives it.
Finding reward orders in Shopify
Reward orders aren't tagged. LoudCrowd's order tagging only applies to sales a creator drove from their audience. A creator using their own reward is a self-purchase, so it isn't attributed to them, earns no commission, and doesn't get a tag.
Reward | How to find it |
Free product | In Orders, search the code or a prefix like |
Discount | In Orders, search the code. In Discounts, open the reward's discount to see its usage and every code issued. |
Gift card | In Products → Gift cards, LoudCrowd cards show the creator's email in the note. Open a card to see its balance and the orders it was used on. |
Analytics → Reports → Discounts breaks out sales and orders by discount, so each program's free product and discount rewards appear as their own lines.

Common questions
Do reward orders count as creator-driven revenue?
No. A creator using their own reward is a self-purchase, so it earns no commission and doesn't count toward the creator's sales or your program's attributed revenue.
Where can I see which creators have claimed a free product or discount?
In Shopify, open the reward's discount. Codes are only created when a creator claims, so the code list is the claim list.
Why don't I see a gift card in Shopify for a creator who earned one?
Gift cards are only created when the creator redeems part of their LoudCrowd balance from the Gift Cards tab in their Creator Hub. Until then, the value only exists in LoudCrowd.
Someone on our team deleted a LoudCrowd discount. What happens?
Codes under that discount stop working at checkout. Re-save the reward in LoudCrowd to create a new discount. Creators holding codes from the deleted discount will need new codes.
Can reward orders be tagged in Shopify?
Not today. Use the discount or gift card to find them (see Finding reward orders in Shopify).
What about affiliate codes?
Affiliate codes are the codes creators share with their audience, like JAMIER. They're separate from rewards and don't follow the formats in this article.
